What is a Menstrual Sponge?
A menstrual sponge is a soft, absorbent product used to manage menstrual flow discreetly—especially useful during physical activity or for convenience.
They are typically:
Sterile and individually wrapped for single use
Some come pre-lubricated for easier, more comfortable insertion
Suitable for up to 8 hours of use, depending on your flow
Note: Menstrual sponges may not be suitable for everyone. Effectiveness can vary based on the heaviness of your period.
How to Use a Menstrual Sponge
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Remove the sponge from its packaging.
If the sponge isn’t pre-lubricated, wet it with water or apply lubricant.
Squeeze out any excess moisture.
Fold and compress the sponge (similar to a tampon).
Insert it into your vagina by squatting or standing with one leg raised.
Position it across your cervix for optimal absorbency.
Wash your hands again after insertion.
How to Remove a Menstrual Sponge
Stay calm and relaxed during removal. You can either squat or stand with one leg lifted.
One-finger method: Gently insert your index or middle finger, hook it around the sponge, and pull it out slowly.
Two-finger method: Use your thumb and middle finger like tweezers to grip and remove the sponge gently.
Tip: Remove the sponge in a bathroom or tiled area to manage potential leakage, or place a towel beneath you.
